The first F1 entry counted in the team's official lineage.
Audi did not enter F1 only as a badge or engine customer. The R26 combines the former Sauber chassis operation at Hinwil with an Audi power unit developed in Neuburg, Germany. Its first season is therefore a test of a complete works system, from energy management and reliability to pit-wall execution.
Nico Hülkenberg offers extensive F1 experience and a clear technical reference, while Gabriel Bortoleto gives Audi a young driver it can develop alongside the project. Their lap-by-lap consistency and ability to seize occasional points are as important in a debut year as headline finishing positions.
Audi's first Formula 1 entry was created through its full takeover of Sauber. That gives the project decades of race-team experience from Hinwil while adding the resources and expectations of a major manufacturer whose endurance-racing and rally history was built around technical innovation.
