What to Know About the Chinese Grand Prix 2026
Two spiral corners bookend a lap with one enormous straight
Turns 1 and 2 tighten while the car remains loaded, asking the driver to wait for rotation instead of forcing the nose. Later, Turn 13 opens onto the 1.2-kilometre run to Turn 14, so the best overtaking move is prepared long before the braking boards arrive.
- Turns 7 and 8 reveal high-speed balance; repeated steering corrections there quickly cost lap time.
- Turn 14 is the headline passing zone, but only drivers with a clean Turn 13 exit begin close enough to use it.
One practice session must answer two different race questions
The 2026 Chinese weekend moves from FP1 directly into Sprint Qualifying, followed by Saturday's Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying. Teams therefore need an early compromise between front-tyre life in the long loaded corners and low drag on the back straight, with little time to test alternatives.
- Use FP1 long runs to judge tyre consistency; the single fastest lap says less about Sunday pace.
- Sprint results provide real traffic and tyre evidence before teams make their final Grand Prix choices.
Line 11 makes the circuit reachable without a race-day road gamble
Shanghai International Circuit sits in Jiading rather than central Shanghai, but Metro Line 11 serves Shanghai Circuit station. Save the latest event schedule and ticket details before leaving, then expect the station and security approaches to be busiest immediately before and after Formula 1 sessions.
