Silverstone's former-airfield layout is wide, fast and unusually exposed. A driver needs front-end confidence to commit through Copse and change direction cleanly across Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel; the Chapel exit then decides how much tow and overtaking reach the car has into Stowe.
FP1 is the only practice before Sprint Qualifying, so teams cannot spend half a day exploring directions. Crosswinds can change braking and turn-in across the open circuit, and showers may reach one section first. The Sprint supplies useful race laps, but it also exposes tyre weakness before Sunday's longer Grand Prix.
Silverstone is not beside a town-centre station. Official Park & Ride, coach, parking and station-shuttle products carry most spectators to the circuit, and the site itself is large enough to make a poorly chosen entrance costly. The official programme also includes support racing, concerts and fan activities, so an early arrival has real value.

FP1 and Sprint Qualifying are on Friday, the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying are on Saturday, and the 52-lap British Grand Prix is on Sunday, July 5. The live timetable on this page converts each session to your timezone.
Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel is the clearest visual test because the car must change direction repeatedly at high speed and still exit well enough to carry speed onto Hangar Straight.
